Community Update: April 2018

Here’s what the team has been up to in April.

Dear POWR Community,

The ever-growing Power Ledger team is working hard behind the scenes on our shared vision for the future and we’re proud of the progress we’ve made since last month.

We’ve knocked down some (literal) walls in the office and now have the tech, business development, managing and marketing teams sitting in one big open space together. The vibe in the office is electric, no pun intended.

Meagan and Lara recently returned from a trip to Europe where they presented at Event Horizon, Urban Energy Forum and more.

Dave is off to Calgary next week where he’ll present at Energy Disruptors conference. Richard Branson, Susan Cain and Michael Liebreich are among the other presenters.

We want to take this opportunity to thank you for your ongoing support and interest in Power Ledger. Our community keeps us focused on the important work in front of us and we can’t thank you enough.

We’re open to queries and feedback at any time, so if you have any questions about who we are or what we’re doing, please contact us via our social platforms, chat with us on Telegram or ask us live during one of our Q&A sessions.

Power Ledger & Kansai Electric Power Co. To Trial Peer-To-Peer Renewable Energy Trading In Japan

Power Ledger and Japan’s second-largest electricity utility Kansai Electric Power Co. (KEPCO) announced we’ll partner to trial peer-to-peer renewable energy trading in Japan.

The aim of the trial is to provide communities with cheaper energy systems to offset existing energy costs and allow generating customers to monetize their renewable energy investments by selling their excess energy peer-to-peer.

KEPCO intends to use the platform to support the development of Virtual Power Plants (VPP) where consumer-owned generating and storage capacity can be used to support local energy demands.

Power Ledger & Clean Energy Blockchain Network Partner With Northwestern University For First Commercial Deployment In United States

As part of Power Ledger’s partnership with Clean Energy Blockchain Network, the team has today announced its first commercial deployment in the United States at Northwestern University Evanston campus.

The Power Ledger platform will enable Northwestern University to trade clean energy both on-campus and between campuses with no additional hardware, software or subscription fees, by using pre existing meters.

Power Ledger Focuses On ‘Building Back Better’ With New Strategic Advisor & Ambassador Dante Disparte

Power Ledger is pleased to announce the appointment of Dante Disparte as a strategic advisor and ambassador for the Americas.

Mr. Disparte is an entrepreneur and global risk expert who founded Risk Cooperative, a coverholder at Lloyd’s, to respond to global protection and recovery gaps from risks, such as climate change, cyber threats, political risk and more. Power Ledger’s development of a decentralized renewable energy trading platform enables a wholesale redesign of resilient energy infrastructure, particularly for vulnerable, last-mile communities and their development and reconstruction efforts.

Following an unprecedented wave of natural and man-made disasters in 2017, including the devastation in the Caribbean and Puerto Rico, which has endured the second most severe blackout in history, the case for future-proofing the world’s energy matrix is urgent.

Mr. Disparte’s appointment will help spur the needed investments, policy changes and market expansion throughout the Americas to accelerate a wave of energy innovations, democratizing access to clean, resilient and renewable energy.

How To Be Involved In Our Fremantle Smart Cities Project

In November last year, the Australian government announced they will provide $2.57 million in funding for a cutting edge project in the City of Fremantle. $5.68 million will be funded through project partners.

The project will trial the use of blockchain settlement for distributed energy and water systems and was the second largest recipient of the Grant across all of Australia, following the ‘Switching on Darwin’ project.

RENeW Nexus is the name of the recently announced Smart Cities Project that will be running in Fremantle supported by Power Ledger, Curtin University, Murdoch University, Synergy, Landcorp, Western Power, the City of Fremantle, and the Australian Government through the Smart Cities and Suburbs Program.
