What’s the Link Between a Fart Balloon, Anubis, Snakes and Rocky, Airships and Aztec-Themed Dragons?
Soul Reaper: Unreap Commander 0.0.14!
Wow, if you thought the ragtag monsters from last time were unusual (and liked it), you’re in for a treat!
We went from totally immature to pretty damn serious in the new monsters this week.
But again, the highlight is actually not the new monsters, but the incredible amount of work that went into the combat system and tasks related to it. I know I say this all the time, but this one is a MASSIVE UPDATE. I think it’s the biggest update we’ve ever done in a single week.
If I’m being completely honest, I’m kinda hooked myself… Just yesterday, I played a full 12 hours straight! I’ve created this super badass squad from scratch:

Anyway, below are the highlights!
1. New System: Actions with Milestones
Let’s go over the feature by first looking at the following screenshot from the Flame Bee:

When the soul is at level 1, it does weak single target fire damage. At level 50, it now hits up to three targets. At level 100, it hits monsters in a CROSS formation. At level 200, it now applies a burn effect, dealing fire damage on the turn of affected monsters.
We revised every single monster in the game to give them “superpowers” like that. Every monster in the game has its own use.
Struggling against a certain squad? There’s a good chance you just need to try different combinations of monsters together in the same row or squad.
2. Some rebalancing
There’s too much to mention it all here, but here’s something important: exp required to level up a soul when fusing has been increased by 10x. Fusing same type souls together gives you 10x<level> exp (which ends up being the same as before), and fusing different types of souls only gives you 1x<level> exp.
The end result is this: we’re helping you diversify squads you train against. Instead of always farming the same squad over and over again, you’re now incentivized to farm those with the souls you’re actually looking to buff.
A very important change to go along with that to keep things fun is this new feature:
3. New Feature: Select your own difficulty
See the following screenshots:

Basically, a once useless training option at higher level can be interesting at higher levels too.
4. TONS of combat updates!
Combat now starts paused, letting you enough time to choose a first target.

That feature is slowing you down? Well, you can turn it off in the Settings!

We also added “nice” tooltips showing you the bonuses each monster brings to the row:
Apart from that, we now support two new types of attacks/debuffs:
- Instant Death (at %); and
- Blinding, basically completely nullifying a monster’s next attack.
Two of the new monsters use these.
And if you feel overwhelmed during combat, you can now pause by pressing the SPACE key, or pressing the beautiful pause button at the top of the screen:

5. TONS of little UI tweaks and fixes to minor annoyances
I won’t go into details here, but I hope you’ll enjoy the extra attention to detail. It is still VERY FAR from perfect though. Make sure to keep the suggestions coming!
6. 5 new monsters
Mr. Fartastic

A little immature some might say, and they’d be totally right.
But you know, we like to find inspiration from everything… including farts…
Need I remind you we also have bananas fighting for an undead skeleton?
So yeah, not that far fetched!
Carnubis

We debatted calling that one Cannubis instead of Carnubis. Which name do you prefer?
That’s the new monster causing Instant Death. He’s not particularly tough, but hey, a chance of instantly killing tough mobs isn’t too shabby!
Balboa

I’m sure you’ll get the reference.
This expert boxer deals tons of physical damage to a bunch of targets.
And hmm… somehow it’s got arms. And ripped ones at that!
Airmachine

This one introduced a new concept for animations of monsters in the game. We had to have the blades animate while other parts would animated separately. Previously, everything was happening on the same track.
Needless to say, this one opened up new possibilities for monster animations in the game!
Galewyrm

This week’s most badass monster is the Galewyrm — the leader of the Hurricane Season squad.
I have to admit it’s a little over powered. But he’s harder to farm! And pretty worthless against a wind-based squad.
Conclusion
There’s actually a lot more going on in this new version. My favourite part is that it opens up so many new interesting builds. I personally have a full page of notes on builds I tried or want to try. In some circumstances, they’re OP, in others, well, I get crushed. There’s no one build to rule them all!

We really should be updating the video trailers we have on Steam, but we’re too busy building a kick-ass game for you. We’ll do it closer to release.
