What Can I Do?

A question asked by so many in despair, yet, if asked correctly, a question of empowerment.

Have you ever caught yourself with thoughts along these lines:

  • Why is this happening to me?
  • Why did this happen like this?
  • Why did that happen like that?
  • I need to make sure that person doesn't do X!
  • Why can’t that person just see that I’m right about XYZ?

You might be surprised to hear that these are typical everyday thoughts most people have, without realizing how unhelpful those thoughts are!

It’s important not only to recognize what we can control and what we can’t, but also to let go of the things that are out of our control.

There will always be things out of our control. We know that!

Thinking, wondering, and stressing about those things will only wear us down mentally, nothing else.

Last week I spoke extensively about living with intent. If you haven’t yet, I recommend reading through the four parts. It will change your life and it will make implementing today’s lesson so much easier for you.

  • You can control how much effort you put into a job interview, but you can’t control whether you get that job.
  • You can control how you show up in your relationships, but you can’t control what people think of you.
  • You can’t control a hurricane, but you can control how you respond to it.

There’s a secret that successful people know that I will share with you:

“Incredible change happens in your life when you decide to take control of what you do have power over instead of craving control over what you don’t.”

What can I control?

So you know there’s a benefit to focusing on what you can control, and you might now be wondering what might that be?

Here are some starting points:

  • Effort — You can always control how much effort you’re willing to put into anything, and you know that extra effort will almost always translate into more positive results.
  • Responsiveness — You can always control your attitude. Every morning, you can decide what type of day you want to have. If you want better days, start focusing on the positive things that happen in your day… and when negativity comes around, don’t let it in. Deal with it, then let it go.
  • Connectivity — You can control how you treat people. Regardless of the way they treat you or others, you can choose to be a positive influence on people and on the world.
  • Communication — You can control your communication. Our words can have a massive impact, and so can our body language, hand gestures, and our tone of voice. Use all of these carefully and with intent.
  • Health — You can decide whether to exercise or not. You decide whether to eat healthy foods or junk foods. You can decide not to listen to or watch media that will only put you down. From the books you read to how much water you drink, you can influence your health for the better.

I have an exclusive coaching program called Lions Unleashed, where we focus on unleashing your inner lion.

Think of the lion for a moment; do you think the lion spends any time focusing on things he can’t control? No!

Focus on what you can control and you will lead a happier and more fulfilling life, filled with more powerful days! 🚀
