With a trending hashtag and a $7.5 billion annual market (yes, that’s how much black women spend on haircare) you’d think venture capitalists would swarm to a product that aims to address #BlackSalonProblems… Well, they aren’t swarming yet. Instead, they are telling Patrice Peck, the Amherst educated cofounder of CRÉME, the on-demand beauty platform for women of color, that she should find a technical cofounder. (Both Patrice and I have found that feedback *interesting* since she can certainly code and that shows in how she has built CRÉME to-date.)

I interviewed Patrice last week for my #femalefounders show on Facebook/Elle.com to dive into how she learned how to code, what we think is up with all these guys telling her to find a technical cofounder and what CRÉME’s plans are in a market that’s crowded with on-demand services for women — if they’re white.
