Dakoda Wogan was recently placed by PowerToFly as a front-end developer at AdMass, an advocate marketing platform. Within weeks Dakoda has moved from her role into a technical producer position; redesigning web apps, composing user-flows, AND writing front-end code — a role custom-made for Dakoda and her ubiquitous expertise. Best yet: Dakoda is carrying on the strong tradition of female influence at AdMass, a startup with a woman Cofounder.

PowerToFly spoke to Dakoda, “The smartest person on our technical team is a woman. Our co-founder is a data scientist and she went to MIT. It certainly imbues a lot of girl power!”

Being part of an organization that values diversity and inclusion is a welcome change for Dakoda. She describes challenges in her professional past as, “Being able to show up and show what you don’t know and have it be acceptable, versus having to pretend. It’s hard to ask for help, and get it, and be perceived as weak or stupid.”

Dakoda’s rallying cry of, “Don’t be the 1%!” is fully adopted and embraced at AdMass — Dakoda’s self-professed dream-job — where the start-up strives to hire diverse candidates. “The only way people can succeed is by bringing in other people who are not like them. If you think about it, you are the 1%. Therefore, everyone else has a different opinion than you. If you bring someone on who is the same, you’ll have a very, very narrow view of the world. You can’t grow and expand quickly. Don’t be the 1%. We try not to think just from our perspective.”
