I love hip hop. I always have. And I’m pretty sure a lot of you do too.

And when I say love, I really mean love. Listening to it is almost religious for me…or at least meditative.

  • On the subway home after a long day at work.
  • When I’m trying to get my mind right before a big meeting.
  • When I wake up to feed my daughter in the morning.
  • I take my religion with me everywhere I go; it never leaves my side.

Except, oddly enough, when one might expect it most — on nights out with my friends in this city I love. I spend all week in my ear buds — practicing my religion, memorizing lyrics, rehearsing my moves & perfecting my playlists. And then when I really want it there — whether I’m celebrating, blowing off steam or just getting some much needed time with my friends — I can’t reach for my buds, my bible, the soundtrack to my life.

That’s why I came up with the idea of Paul’s Boutique. Because I’m tired of making the choice between the music I love & going out in the city I love.

I envision Paul’s Boutique as part hip-hop listening room (like you might find at a museum) & part bar/speakeasy/lounge (like you might find in the West Village). It’s a place you can come with friends or by yourself — when you’re trying to let loose & have a blast or lose yourself & find peace in the music.

I’m not yet a billionaire so I can’t leave OAB and/or invest in NYC real estate to bring my full vision to life. But, thanks to my good friend ajay’s idea accelerator, Nextt, I think we’ve designed a cool way to test the idea of Paul’s Boutique with help from our friends at Norwood & the brilliant Himanshu Suri. And I guess we’ll see from there.

You can learn more & request an invite here. I really hope you do.

We all the way up!
