Five Wrestling Heel Turns that Worked
And Five that Didn’t
Spoiler Alert: This Article contains results from Elimination Chamber: Toronto.
Last night was the WWE’s Elimination Chamber: Toronto PLE. The event saw Bianca Belair win the women’s match to get a Women’s World Championship match at WrestleMania 41. In the men’s chamber match, John Cena punched his ticket to main event his final WrestleMania with Cody Rhodes.
The event closed with a segment where the Rock came out (with Travis Scott for some reason) to get an answer from the champion, Cody Rhodes. The previous week, the Rock had made Rhodes an offer to be “his champion” in exchange for his soul. At the end of Elimination Chamber, Rhodes refused the offer, and he and Cena embraced. It seemed like the WrestleMania match would be two babyfaces facing off. Instead, Cena attacked Rhodes, turning heel for the first time since 2003.
For many fans, this is something they had egaerly been waiting for. Cena has been a top babyface for almost twenty years, and for some, the schtick had gotten stale. Cena himself had hinted about wanting to turn heel on several occasions. And while it is likely that we will see Cena turn babyface again before the end of of his farewell tour, this will hopefully be a fun change of pace. We know Cena is good on the mic, so some heel promos will be cutting to say…
