It was announced yesterday that Paul Heyman will be the first member of the 2024 class of the WWE Hall of Fame. This was no surprise; Wrestlemania 40 is held in Philadelphia this year, and Heyman has a long history with the city.

Heyman is likely best known to younger fans as the manager/advocate/wise man to former champion Brock Lesnar and current champion Roman Reigns. His distinct delivery and microphone skills have made him one of the best talkers in the business. He has also worked behind the scenes as a producer and mentor to many of the WWE's young talent.

However, Heyman had a long career before he worked with WWE. He rose to fame in the NWA/WCW as Paul E. Dangerously and managed such greats as Steve Austin and Rick Rude. His Dangerous Alliance faction was one of the best heel groups in the organization.

The mid-to-late-1990s is when Heyman indeed rose to prominence. He began the renegade wrestling promotion ECW (Extreme Championship Wrestling). They brought distinction to the hardcore wrestling style, and for a short time, they were the third most popular wrestling company in the U.S. Former WCW talent like Steve Austin and Mick Foley got a second shot in their careers.
