The Von Erich Curse?
A wrestling family full of tragedy.
In professional wrestling, many families have been successful. The Hart family gave us Bret and Owen. The An’noi family from Samoa has produced a High Cheif Peter Miavia, Rikishi, Yokozuna, The Rock, and current WWE stars Roman Reigns and the Usos. You can also add the Rhodes family with Dusty, Dustin (aka Golddust), and Cody.
Look at any wrestling company today; you will surely find the son, daughter, or grandchild of previous wrestling great. Some will say the sport is in their blood, and there are plenty of stories of various levels of success.
While many of these family stories and legacies are happy, they are not without their moments of tragedy. The Hart family dealt with the death of Owen, along with other family dramas that could fill a whole book. The early death of Yokozuna still haunts members of the An’noi family. One could argue wrestling families are more tragic than others due to the hard lifestyle many of the performers lived until recent years. This may be so for some, but many stories of proud families carrying on great wrestling traditions exist.
No wrestling family has endured their fair share of tragedy more than the Von Erich Family. Patriarch Fritz Von Erich had six sons. By his death in 1997 from cancer, five of his sons were already dead. Tragic…
