This is a two part how-to guide to using some free web-based tools to set-up an email with mentions of your brand or company. I set this up recently for our startup to see who’s talking about our brand.

The finished a product — a list of tweets and news articles with your brand emailed each week

Update: At Powrbot we’re now offering a free service mimicking the above for less tech-savvy or time-poor users. Check it out here.

1. The quick and easy option: set up a Google Alert (excludes Twitter mentions)

If you simply want an email for your brand mentions in Google news, Google Alerts is quick and easy to set up. See the how-to video here:

2. The harder, better, faster option: set up Zapier to get Google Alerts & Twitter mentions in a spreadsheet

This video will show you how to:

  1. Convert the Google Alert for each brand mention into an RSS feed and use Zapier to save the RSS feed to a Google spreadsheet
  2. Use Zapier to save Twitter mentions for your brand to the same Google spreadsheet
  3. Use Zapier to send yourself an email each week as a overview with a link to your spreadsheet!

All of the above can be done using a free account with Zapier, Twitter & Gmail.
