We have each had our lives impacted by a communal narcissist at some point, whether or not we realize it. These individuals hide in the open, gracing our television screens, our magazine covers, and even leading our countries into the modern age. A communal narcissist differs greatly from other narcissists, and often hard to spot when we’re too closely intertwined with them. Masking their desire for control as a desire to help, they slip right into platforms of power and outreach and wreck our lives in several ways.

Communal narcissists are everywhere.

How much have you heard about the communal narcissist? More often than not, our conversations on narcissism center on romance and intimate partnerships. That niche of narcissism is wildly overestimated, though. Most average people are not narcissists, but these toxic people do exist. Beyond our relationships, however, they live in some of the places we may least expect them. Not every narcissist is a braggadocious CEO. Some of them are far more subtle (and far more insidious). The communal narcissist is one such example.
