Do You Want to Know Why Some People Fall For Conspiracy Theories?
There’s a reason some conspiracy theories hold us in thrall.
How many conspiracy theories have you encountered today? It’s not an unreasonable question to ask in our world. Every day, we each encounter some form of conspiracy theory, aimed to detract and distract us from the working realities of our everyday lives. Take it from me.
As an online writer in the psychology space, I have to do research on all the research that I do. Not only do I have to make sure I’m picking from reputable sources, but I also have to look into who funded the research I cite in my essays on the mind and mental health. I have to make sure there’s no extra spin, tied up in assumptions and conspiracies.
That’s because conspiracy theories are everywhere in the world we live in. What was once confined to the boundaries of off-grid and underground prepper militias is now a part of our political rhetoric and our mainstream informational news. But not everyone falls for them…why?
As it turns out, some of us are more fertile ground for conspiracy theories than others (and psychology may be to blame).
