We live in an age of social media. There’s no escaping it. Not only is it a tool to keep up with friends and family around the world. It’s also become the primary means by which some of us shop, meet, and conduct business. It can seem like our entire lives exist in the digital sphere sometimes. And that comes with a cost.

Plummeting mental health, aggravated anxiety, and despondent relationships are all associated with high social media use. The worst aggravator of them all? Instagram. It may be doing serious damage to your mental health. And this is what you can do to stop it.

Why Instagram is bad for mental health.

Recently, the Royal Society for Public Health in the UK completed a major survey. This survey, called #StatusofMind took a look at all the major social media platforms, and how they affected users between the age of 14–24. It’s important because it painted a picture very different from the way we view social media — especially Instagram. According to the study, it was one of the most toxic and damaging social media platforms in regard to human health and happiness.
