The Growth Digest

Taking your personal growth journey to the next level with the best stories from E.B. Johnson.

Wow! It’s been a minute.

You’ve probably noticed that The Growth Digest has been on hiatus. It’s been almost 2 whole months since the last time this newsletter slid across your screen (or inbox) and a lot has happened in that time.

Not least of all, my coaching program went viral on TikTok — which means I’ve been busy, busy behind the scenes helping people to recover their strongest sense of self.

What were days spent cramped over a keyboard have now turned into afternoons comfortably tucked into Zoom. I love helping my clients and readers all over the world, and thanks to TikTok (and Medium) I now get to that full time.

A lot has transformed personally too. And while I won’t bore you with those details, I can confidently say that it’s going to change the way you see me here and across my books, stories, and social platforms.

As always, everything is being done for the greater good. I’m optimistic about where this new path is taking me, and grateful for the opportunity to explore it and to share it with you. Ready to take the journey with me? I can’t wait to see what we find…

All the best,

E.B.

Narcissism is one of the biggest buzzwords on the internet, year-after-year. But what are you not being told about this trendy new way to label those around you? There’s a lot, actually. Remember, not all narcissists are created equal, and not every selfish person is a narcissist at heart…

Do you feel like you’re losing respect for your parents as you age? That’s not a mistake, it’s not a fluke. This is a normal and natural process that many of us go through. Investing In a Different Future

Spots are limited. Apply now.

There are less than 6 months left in the year. How scary is that? It seems like we just hopped into 2022 a month ago. The year has flown by, and now is a good chance to ask yourself: Are you where you want to be? It’s not a trick question.

Like it or not, the new year is just around the corner. If you want to go into 2023 with a clean slate and a clear mind, then you have to set that groundwork and you have to do it fast.

That’s why my 8-week private coaching program does for survivors of childhood trauma and narcissistic abuse. Working with me, you can learn how to:

  • Establish healthy boundaries for yourself
  • Create systems for conflict and communication
  • Re-build a stable and healthy sense of self

It’s all about re-programming yourself and the beliefs that are holding you back from acting in your higher nature. That’s what makes NLP such a powerful tool for healing from the upset and conditioning of narcissistic abuse.

Want to find out more? There is limited time left to work with me this year. If you’re ready to make serious changes then apply for your spot. But BEWARE: this program is only for those committed to quick, serious improvement in their lives.

A Few More of Your Favorites

More popular favorites from the Practical Growth blog.

  • You may realize that your relationship is standing on shaky ground. But did you realize that it’s becoming dangerous too? You can’t afford to ignore these signs anymore. If you and your partner are showing these traits, it’s time to accept that you’re heading in a dangerous direction.
  • The reason so many of us struggle to recover from childhood trauma is because we’re sold a total lie. Healing doesn’t happen magically, and for some of us the scars will linger forever. Want to find peace at long last? Let go of the rest of these toxic misconceptions.
  • Narcissistic people are some of the most subtle manipulators on the planet. Varying wildly from the grandiose braggart we’ve been sold, they prefer to pull the strings of their victims slowly over time. Have you been the victim of a narcissistic person? These are some of the signs you may have missed.

Breaking Through the Mold with Healthy Rebellion

Image by westend61 via Envato Elements

Were you raised by toxic or abusive people? Still haunted by the family who is determined to tear you down? The best thing you can do is learn how to rebel against them, but there’s a right way and a wrong way of going about this brazen act of healing rebellion.

Rebellion is not only an act of breaking their cycles, it’s an act of giving ourselves:

  • a stronger sense of who we are
  • a loving network of chosen family
  • a life full of authentic joy

You were meant to rebel against the people who hurt you. You were meant to stand up and create a life that is so radically yours it terrifies them.

None of that comes from self-sabotage, though. It won’t happen through you destroying yourself and proving every bad thing they thought about you right. Instead, you have to learn how to build a life that is so thoroughly yours it shocks them.

Want to learn how to become the true rebel you were meant to be? You can discover this process — and more — all on the Practical Growth Podcast. New episodes streaming each week.

Answering Your Questions

Q. How does narcissistic abuse cause an inner critic in the victim? How can I get rid of it?

A. When you are caught in the clutches of a narcissist, you move quickly from the idealization stage to the next stage of the relationship — devaluation. During this phase, a narcissistic person will work hard to put you down and create the idea that you are less than them in every way that matters.

Over time, this voice becomes your own voice. Their put downs become the exact kinds of criticism you give yourself. You become just as cruel to inner you as the narcissist is. You learn to doubt yourself, to doubt your choices. It’s a type of conditioning that takes years to undo.
