The Types of People Who Will Make You Absolutely Miserable

In one of Agatha Christie’s most exciting stories, Destination Unknown, she explores the concept of misery and happiness. “Civilized misery is the worst misery”, her main character observes — as her spying career escalates and her zest for life returns.
It’s an astute observation, and one that applies to our own lives, too.
There is no worse misery than the misery which is programmed right into the everyday minutia of our lives. That includes our romantic relationships, and even our friendships and family relationships, too.
When we surround ourselves with miserable people, we wind up being miserable. They will drain you, disrespect you, and spend all their time and energy sucking up all the air in their relationship with you. It’s not a nice way to live with someone, it’s not a nice way to gel. And that’s why we shouldn’t allow miserable people to stay in our lives where they make us miserable.
