…Often Enough

“It takes money to make money.”

These words were never more true than they are today.

Regardless of whether you wish to launch an app, a tour guide service, a restaurant, a clothing line, or a concierge business…it takes money to set up, manage, and promote it. FACT: It is more costly now than ever to market your business.

Over the years — and in between working for other companies and corporations — I have launched my own businesses. Up until recently, it was relatively easy to promote them without spending a ton of money. I was able to leverage free advertising via online directories and other outlets, social media, local organizations, and organic SEO. Those days are gone, really gone.

There are two monolithic companies I’ll bet you can name that are in no small part responsible for this situation. But there are plenty of other factors and players responsible for completely demolishing the level playing field the internet once provided.

These days, you have to pay for every single virtual impression you try to make. None is sustainable organically, not these days.

So, entrepreneur, prepare thyself. What your business doesn’t cost you in actual money, it will certainly cost you in terms of time and effort (think social media content creation and management).

Forewarned is forearmed.
