There has been a lot of talk the last few weeks by my clients and my peers about difficult conversations. Last week we shared a book summary on Difficult Conversations. This week we are sharing Crucial Conversations and I have a LinkedIn Micro-Summary of the book Fierce Conversations I’m about to post shortly. (Check out my LinkedIn page to see it!).

So what’s the big deal anyway. Well … frankly many people do not want to give or receive challenging feedback. Yet on the flip side, if you don’t — no one will learn how to improve.

So what is a fierce conversation then? The author of the book Fierce Conversations says “Fierce Conversations MicroSummary a fierce conversation is one in which we come out from behind ourselves into the conversation and make it real. It’s about moral courage, making real requests, and taking action.”

These are the challenging conversations people are having right now about Afghanistan or the about being allies for any marginalized group. These topics challenge us to be brave and have a real stance. If you struggle with difficult or crucial conversations, fierce conversations might not be in your wheel house just yet. Yet … do you want to have hard, brave conversations? If so, check out the summary of how on my LinkedIn page. If you need support — book a call .

In other news — this week we’ve got 3 new book summaries for you that you can watch or listen to.

Crucial Conversations by Kerry Patterson (watch on Monday-Tuesday)

As the authors of Crucial Conversations tell us, most human problems lie in how people behave when others disagree with them about important and emotional issues.

How these moments turn out often decide the trajectory of your life. Which is why having a strategy you can rely on to produce results in those moments is so crucial.

In this summary you’ll learn the 7 principles for having crucial conversations in a productive way.

The Ultimate Sales Machine by Chet Holmes (watch on Wednesday-Thursday)

According to Holmes there are two things that are required if you want to have success in business and in sales.

The first key is what he calls “pigheaded discipline.”

The second key is to focus on mastery. Doing 12 things 4,000 times will generate far better results than doing 4,000 different things. And what are those 12 things? You’ll find out in this summary.

The Checklist Manifesto by Atul Gawande (watch on Friday-Sunday)

Atul Gawande has a startling idea: that many of the problems that we face today can be solved by the simple, humble checklist.

His book outlines the solutions he helped implement across surgery sites worldwide (saving millions of lives), but also how checklists are solving problems in other industries too — like construction and aviation.
