On Week 2 of Lead Wise Self-Management Intensive

This second week of Lead Wise Self-Management intensive has been a learning yet rather challenging experience. We have been working around the subject of“relatedness” with respect to the self-determination theory of human motivation and personality. More specifically, we worked inside a group to craft a social contract that would determine the way we would align with each other as a team, including:

  • agreements
  • practices
  • meeting cadence
  • communications
  • objectives

What I meant above with it being challenging was due, primarily, to the constraint (if it may be considered so) of working with a remote team for the first time, moreover us having different availabilities, expectations and skills. Paradoxically, this diversity turned out to be positive too as we worked transversally in different aspects of the agreement at different times asynchronously, which ended in a “live” session to bring it all together and agree on it being what could dictate our future way of working.

It found enlightening how one of my team members, Sujei, suggested to use “agreements” vs. “accountabilities” for referring to what we would expect from each other, as it implied it being the result a much more inclusive and consensus based decision making process.
