I am full of advice that I cannot seem to take.

I am kind to my friends when they struggle, but mean to myself.

I let fear stop me from doing things that would definitely improve my life.

For these reasons and more, I’ve written this list to remind me that life isn’t a flawless journey from one success to the next. Human nature isn’t perfect, and I am human, and being human is totally amazing. I can accept myself with all my fears and flaws and limitations, but only if I practice.

  1. Everything is practice. There is no such thing as perfection, only practice. There is no such thing as failure, only illumination.
  2. Growth is endless. There is no destination, only transformation.
  3. Challenge expands capacity. Struggle is required for growth. My limits can only be broken if I test them.
  4. Responsibility is power. I am responsible for my progress. Ownership creates options, blame destroys them.
  5. Opportunity is everywhere. It is up to me to pursue what I want to create.
  6. There are no shortcuts. An acorn becomes an oak one branch at a time.
  7. There is only giving. To get something out, I must put something in.
  8. Fear is a broken compass. Whenever I’m afraid, I know I‘m onto something good — resistance is a sign of the path.
  9. Help is only provided to those who ask. My problems are not unique. Asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness.
  10. Attention transforms everything. Awareness is a force of change. Simply noticing old patterns is enough to weaken them.
  11. All boundaries are imaginary. Everything humanity has achieved was once considered impossible. Who gets to decide what I’m capable of?
