No one likes waking up early.

Even I don’t. And I’m someone who regularly wakes up at 5 AM.

So if I hate waking up early so much, why do I do it?

In the opening of Meditations, Book 5, Marcus Aurelius writes:

At dawn, when you have trouble getting out of bed, tell yourself: “I have to go to work — as a human being. What do I have to complain of, if I’m going to do what I was born for — the things I was brought into the world to do? Or is this what I was created for? To huddle under the blankets and stay warm?

But it’s nicer here. . . .

So you were born to feel “nice”?

What Marcus is getting at is the fundamental reason for humans being on this Earth. We’re here to live our lives, not to just feel “nice.”

But it’s a bit difficult to experience the world, seize opportunities, and learn new things when you’re still huddled under your covers 3 hours after the sunrise.

Waking up late is a surefire way to guarantee a bad day.

When you get up late, your mind isn’t given ample time to warm up before the day starts…
