I’ve reflected on my writing journey. It’s incredible what you see when you pause to assess your progress. What I realized was astounding.

In 4 minutes, I’ll take the time to share all the norm writing habits I know suck writing joy.

Here are all the habits you don’t need when you sit down to write.

1. Methodical SpongeBob SquarePants

It’s unnatural for anyone to have SpongeBob SquarePants’ enthusiasm daily. But you can look forward to writing by setting up a simple system.

SquarePants’ routine is so much his norm. It’s on display in the show’s theme song. You can pick one tiny constant.

Mark Twain wrote in bed. Meanwhile, Charles Dickens stood at his desk. Francine Prose wrote by a window, much like I have accepted into my intentional writing routine.

Limit the mental size of your overthinking.

2. Repeat this one thing

Your interest will creep into your search history.

It also increases your blind spots. It’s because if you want a narrative, you’ll find stats to support it. Try a new topic every other Friday. Or aim your piece at…
