With the current buzz around elections and manifestos and the promise of change in the air, I reflect on my journey and the promises I have made to myself over the years.

After four years of intense solo caregiving for my parents in the Caribbean, I am finally settling back home in the UK with mum and dad and my familiar support structures and family.

As such, I feel a sense of spaciousness and freedom to finally make space to refocus and reconsider the direction of my life, my business, and, most importantly, self-care.

With this spaciousness, especially in the mornings, I can journal and meditate on my purpose and values and the changes I have experienced in the last four years.

Like most women, I know the motto, “Look after yourself first.”

Yet, over the past four years, “my self-care” has suffered as I adapted to the role and responsibilities of being the primary carer for Mum (aged 90) and Dad (aged 91).

So, I am glad to feel mentally stronger and to be able to think about ways of resetting my self-care button.
