Biggest Challenges of 6 Months Sobriety
I made the difficult decision to quit drinking 6 months ago.
I tried to quit, many times before. But this time I actually wanted to. Despite being in difficult situations and having the temptation thrust in my face, I was able to refrain.
My life has changed for the positive.
But it hasn't all been rainbows and sunshine.
Here are a few things that have sucked about sobriety.
1. Dealing with a booze-filled hole.
Any sort of addiction/over-reliance is usually used as a coping mechanism for something. Alcohol changes your state and is a form of escapism. It also helps numb you and makes you not need to address difficult emotions.
Well, when you stop drinking, certain emotions will come up that you have to meet head-on. This is obviously a positive thing to do. But it is tough. Who wants to actually sit there with their demons? None of us. That's why most people are addicted to something. And if you are not addicted, you are distracted. There are so many ways to distract yourself from feeling.
I have definitely been forced to meet things head-on. But I have also found that my body has craved…
