How I Write 10,000 Words a Week Alongside My Day Job
How to write so much
I work 9-to-5.
I write in the early hours and on the odd occasion, after work. I write a lot. I don’t use Chatgpt very often, not because it’s not great, it is, I just like the system I’ve got going on.
I write 5–8 articles a week, a newsletter and I’m planning on ramping that up next year (funnn)— I do it all in about 2–3 hours a day.
So here’s how I write so much each week.
Protect your 2 hours
I wake up and write.
It’s been like this for 4 years now. On and off and of course it’s not a seamless process. Some days, I’m frankly too tired to function, I snooze my alarm wrap myself into a duvet burrito, and ignore the world.
But most days, I get up.
I get up because I know that if I do, I’m much more likely to have a better day. If I write, I always find my day is lighter. The thoughts aren’t weighing me down.
I protect my 2 hours with as much energy as I have. Often it’s enough. Sometimes it’s not. But I aim to write most mornings, which usually means 5/7.
