How to Create Tutorials (That Aren’t Boring)
The right way to create (interesting) educational content
I’ve created over 200 tutorials in my career as a content creator and educator.
It all started with this grand vision: educating my audience and becoming the go-to resource in my niche.
But the reality was a harsh slap in the face.
My tutorials were tedious to produce, drained all my energy, and to top it off: they bored my audience to tears.
Today, I create my tutorials radically different. And as a result, they’re building my email list on autopilot and allow me to monetize my expertise with digital courses.
Let me show you the tiny tweak I made.
The harsh reality about tutorials
When I first started to write content, I was excited to teach others.
And as a good teacher what did I do?
I put out a lot of “how-to” content. Yes, I was knowledgeable. Yes, I was experienced. Yet my course sales were lukewarm at best.
I got a lot of “thank you” messages. But people weren’t buying anything from me.
Worse: they were buying from my competitors who weren’t even as qualified as I was.
It was frustrating. I had a wealth of expertise to share, but the results just weren’t there. I felt that all my efforts were useless.
You can’t build a profitable audience with tutorials alone
Perhaps you’ve tried various methods to create engaging content.
You’ve experimented with how-to guides, step-by-step tutorials, and instructional videos. They might get views, but those views don’t translate into paying customers.
Worse, they might attract just a horde of tire kickers who want more of your “free stuff.”
What you really need is a way to not just teach but also to engage your audience more deeply. You need them to feel invested in your content and your journey.
Building a deeper connection with your audience isn’t just about sharing knowledge.
