One of the hardest parts about building on the internet when you work 9-to-5 is being authentically you. It’s hard. It’s hard to show up as your most honest, raw version because you fear what people will think.

When you can be anyone you want, it’s daunting to pick the person you really are. The right choice of course, but a hard one.

If you’re wondering why and how you should show up as your authentic, raw, honest self, here are some things to think about:

1. Start with what you *really* want to say

The best place, or maybe the only place, to start from is where you are. With the experiences you have. And the thoughts that you think. It’s easy to scroll through the internet and pick a popular topic (we’ve all done it) what’s harder is to tell the stories that are innately in you.

Here’s where to start:

  • Ask yourself: What have I been thinking about for the last few weeks?
  • Reflect on your thinking: Why is it that this thing is stealing your attention?
  • Write: Share your thoughts, feelings, fears, insights — exactly as you are.
