I Was X10 More Productivity When I Did This
And it’ll probably work for you too
In my mid-twenties, I was working in a corporate job. I’d commute an hour to work and an hour back — the day would consist of endless meetings, calls, and conversations about things to do.
Then I’d get home, throw some beige food in the oven and start work on my side project. You see, upon entering the corporate world, I’d decided (with the help of endless podcasts and YouTube videos) that I was not built for it. That it was a trap. That I would never be happy here.
So I spent my evenings ‘building’. I say ‘building’ because the reality was, I spent most of my time watching videos on how other people had accomplished the things that I wanted to. On reflection, I barely built anything in those years, I just went through this perpetual cycle of admiring other people, firing myself into action, going 100 miles an hour for 3 weeks, and then giving up — then I’d rinse and repeat.
My conclusion, often, was that I needed a better system. If I just had a productivity system, things would be seamless. I wouldn’t fall asleep at work or end up in a spiral of YouTube videos because if I had a system, things would be simple.
