Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery and today is a gift, that is why it is called the present.”

‘Living in the moment’ is a situation that everyone says and knows something about, but also finds it difficult to do. So why is it so difficult? So does anyone always have to challenge as if it is a war while trying to live in the moment?

I think we have to train at a level of consciousness to the point of saying fight. Again, I think that, since a person is stuck between the past, present and future, it is not possible to stay ‘completely’ in the present. As with many things, I assume that the balance factor plays a big role here.

Because if this were not the case, living entirely in the past would be cruel to people, and life would slip out of their hands; or a person feel trapped in the moment and could lose the value of things.

If we stop and think about it, wouldn’t living completely in the now, make us feel like we’re stuck in time? How will it be possible to give meaning to some things in the moment when there is no feeling of what they have done, such as happiness or responsibility?

According to a study, people spend 47% of the day on autopilot because they cannot focus. Can you imagine how much we live by heart? Of course, there are some exercises recommended by experts to break this habit of ours, but generally the opinion is that wanting to stay in the moment and becoming aware is the first step.

So how do we stay in the Moment?

Be aware of your surroundings
When was the last time you closed your eyes, took a deep breath, and just looked at what was around you? How often do you take time during the day to notice the things going on around you? It’s much easier to stay in the moment when you stop looking at what’s around you and start seeing everything.

• What do the walls look like?
• So what patterns do you see on the floors or ceilings?
• How many lamps can you count when you look from where you are?
• How many windows are there on your right and left?

Focus on one thing at a time
When you’re trying to learn to live in the moment, it helps a lot to focus on one thing at a time. If you are working on something, give it your full attention. If you find yourself thinking about other things or playing on your phone, stop and bring your focus back to what you need to do. Research shows that if you fully focus on what is happening in the moment, details are remembered better in the long term.

Be grateful for what you have in the moment
Part of living in the moment is taking time to be grateful for what you have right now. To live in the moment, be grateful for what you have right now. If you constantly focus on the things you don’t have, you won’t be able to appreciate the things you currently have. Write down three things you have right now that you are grateful for.

Experience the acceptance
If you want to learn to live in the moment, you must stop thinking about how things should go and accept things as they are. You can’t control everything that happens around you; life can sometimes go differently than you want.

Create Positive and Supportive Social Spaces
Having positive and supportive people around you will make it easier to live in the moment in your life. In return, you can focus on living in the moment instead of being distracted by past or future events.

Be aware of everything you do
Be aware of everything you do, from eating to scrolling through social media. How often do you watch TV while eating? It’s a way to distance yourself from what you’re doing and not live in the present. Because your interest is not in what you are doing at that moment.

• Instead, focus on what you are eating while eating.
• What does the food smell like?
• How does it taste?
• How does your body react to what you’ve eaten so far?

Take a break from social media and technology
Staying away from social media and other platforms will help you stay much more present. While constantly checking your accounts may seem like it helps you stay in touch with the world, it actually has negative effects on your ability to stay in the moment.

How many times have you found yourself checking social media while doing something else? It’s important to learn how to avoid letting technology take over your life; because it can actually prevent you from being attentive to what’s going on around you.

Exercise or do yoga regularly
Regular exercise and even just getting out and walking can help you be much more present.

Instead of the last word

It may sound cliché, but focusing on what you have, making time for yourself, and building a healthier environment will help you live in the moment and therefore increase your quality of life. By obsessing about the past or feeling concerned about the future, we only harm ourselves; at the end of the day, we produce the z report without providing any benefit to anyone, including ourselves.
