Make More Money (So You Can Make More Art)

It’s been a couple of years since I’ve written a book, so I’m going to start writing my fourth soon.
Books, in and of themselves, aren’t a great way to make money.
You either have to write a mega best seller like Mark Manson or serial publish dozens of books per year.
But I’m still writing a new one. I hope it becomes a mega best seller. But it doesn’t matter whether or not it does.
Why?
Because my business pays my bills. This means I can do my art for joy.
It wasn’t always this way…
At the height of my success on Medium, I was making $15-$20,000 per month, but I was also writing 40 articles per month.
At that fast of a clip, it went from writing articles to churning them out. I liked the money, but part of me felt ‘cheap’ for writing stuff because I felt like I had to, not because I wanted to.
Sometimes, turning your passion into a business turns something that was once cool and fun to do into another job.
