When Socrates said, “Know Thyself,” he was trying to teach his students how to be at peace with themselves — their individual, unique, and very human selves. He likely had no idea that his words would still hold true centuries later and would be quoted by people from all levels of society and education.

Self-knowledge was his chosen method to attempt to embrace each person’s distinctive personality. Yet this rather intellectual path to self-awareness needs a little emotion — a little soul. That can be challenging for some people who would rather deal in facts and figures without emotion — because, frankly, emotions can be messy. Let’s see if we can make it a bit easier for those people who put more stock in learned intelligence than in emotion.
