Six Ways My Words Have Made Me Money in 2024

I’ve been doing my end-of-year annual review, and the results are in. These are the six main ways I’ve made money as a writer this year, along with some snippets of advice, tools and links for those of you who are aiming to do the same.
Ghostwriting
The majority of the words that made me money this year weren’t published under my own name. I write for a content marketing agency and a couple of private clients who pay me on a work-for-hire basis. This mainly involves sales-based copywriting and content for company blogs and newsletters. Obviously my role in this is anonymous, but it forms the biggest chunk of my income.
I lost some of this type of work to AI this year, but as I’ve already disclosed, it was the work I didn’t really enjoy, so I’m not losing any sleep over that.
If ghostwriting appeals to you, I advise you to pitch content marketing agencies or potential private clients direct. You can also apply for gigs through platforms like LinkedIn and the ProBlogger job board, or via third party platforms like Upwork and PeoplePerHour.
