I’ve been on Substack for a little over six months and have already shared my thoughts on it here and here.

There are definitely pros and cons to the platform — as with any platform — but one thing I’m still enjoying, several months in, is it’s versatility. As Jari Roomer points out in this Note:

“It’s like Medium, Convertkit and X had a baby.”

And that has its advantages.

Substack is a newsletter platform

I moved my entire list from Mailchimp to Substack earlier this year when I rashly quit all three of my blogs at once but still wanted a way to keep sending out a newsletter.

Most newsletters require you to have your own domain name. Mailchimp, for example, requires a verified email address attached to a domain you own, which you also have to verify.

Substack does not. You can run a Substack even if you have no blog, no website, no domain name and just a regular gmail or other free personal email.

Unlike most other newsletter platforms, it’s free to send out a newsletter on Substack, no matter now many subscribers you have, unless you…
