I’ve always dreamed of building something for myself.

I didn’t always know what, exactly—and the truth is, I still don’t. I just always imagined that it would be something to do with words.

This vision of “being a writer” has lived rent-free in my mind for as long as I can remember. Sometimes it’s taken a back seat to other pursuits or dreams, but even when I step away from it for a time, I always manage to find my way back to it.

It’s always been there, and I know it always will be.

But sometimes, this vague aspiration of mine has caused more pain than fulfillment.

Noise, noise, noise, noise! (Grinch style)

Everywhere we look, billboards and advertisements are screaming at us, trying to capture our attention. The millions of social media users are all competing for attention, trying to get noticed. There are so many content creators out there already that adding another voice to the pile just seems like a lost cause.

With so much competition and so many shiny new distractions popping up constantly, who’s going to listen? Who’s going to notice?
