Frolicking through a pastoral meadow, you laugh cheerfully as the sun radiates a comforting warmth throughout your whole body. There’s nothing but rolling hills of vibrant, green grass and bright flowers, swaying gently in the breeze as far as the eye can see. The scenery is pure bliss.

That’s when a horrible screeching sound rouses you.

Rolling over in your bed, you grab blindly for your phone, missing several times. Eventually, you’re able to locate the source of the infernal noise that so rudely interrupted your euphoric dream. Opening one eye against the blinding screen, you’re just barely able to make out the time:

7:00 AM.

You groan in protest before shutting off the alarm and rolling back to sleep.

Sound familiar?

We’ve all had days when it feels utterly impossible to get out of bed — the alarm goes off “too early” or the bed is “too nice” to get out of. But it’s a mistake to give in to this lazy inclination and sneak in a few more minutes of sleep. Not getting up when you’re supposed to sets the wrong tone for the entire day.
