I was not always a fan of outlining — or planning my writing at all.

That’s changed.

Now that I write a newsletter, I see the value in planning.

Outlining is like the blueprint for a writing masterpiece — it’s what keeps a writer on track through the crazy maze of their imagination.

It’s a big deal. It brings order and structure to a flood of wild ideas.

And I’ve had some crazy ideas before. Outlining helps me filter through them. Some will never see the light of day — outlining helps me find the really good ones and the really bad ones!

Ways to outline

There’s more than one way to outline, each with its unique style of wrangling thoughts into a cool story.

Ever heard of the Traditional Outline? It’s like a list with numbers and letters that break down main ideas, details, and subtopics. Think of it as a step-by-step guide to the whole story.
