Well, hold onto your thinking cap because I’m about to reveal how reading “The Clash of Civilizations and the Remaking of World Order” by Samuel P. Huntington turned into an unexpected productivity goldmine for me.

Lately, I’ve been on a quest for productivity hacks to fast-track my journey to success. Whilst engrossed in Huntington’s book, the term “Paradigms” waltzed onto the stage. In the book, they’re used to decode the ever-evolving political landscape. But my quirky brain saw a link between these “Paradigms” and the daily tricks we use to supercharge our productivity.

We all have our unique productivity paradigms, like apps such as “21 Days” or Notion templates, guiding our self-improvement journey. Sometimes, it’s about channeling your inner Bob Ross or Cristiano Ronaldo, using them as paradigms for your personal favorite hobby.

Paradigms help us grasp those quirky behaviors and habits we aim to change or enhance. They serve as the foundation for our journey forward. But remember, not all paradigms are created equal; they need to be well-constructed models.

Now, what makes a paradigm effective? Well, according to Kuhn, “To be accepted as a paradigm, a theory must seem better than its competitors, but it need not, and in fact never does, explain all the facts with which it can be confronted.”

So, if the 25-minute Pomodoro timer feels like an alien concept, don’t sweat it!

When picking a paradigm or map for your journey ahead (bearing in mind this book’s political focus), ensure it checks these boxes:

  1. Order & Generalization of Reality: Think about where you currently stand.
  2. Understanding Causal Relationships: Dive into your emotions and recurring habits — your very own detective work!
  3. Anticipation & Prediction: Get that sense of progress. It’s like your crystal ball but with better accuracy.
  4. Distinguishing Importance: Prioritize your healthier habits. Salad over midnight snacks, anyone?
  5. Guiding Paths to Goals: Make sure your actions align with your ambitions.

In the wise words of John Lewis Gaddis “Finding one’s way through unfamiliar terrain, generally requires a map of some sort. Cartography, like cognition itself, is a necessary simplification that allows us to see where we are, and where we may be going.”

After all, Observation can be more informative than conversation.

And before I sign off, let’s embrace the wisdom of Emily Maroutian (Author of In Case Nobody Told You) “You’re not stuck. You’re just committed to certain patterns of behavior because they helped you in the past. Now those behaviors have become more harmful than helpful. The reason why you can’t move forward is because you keep applying an old formula to a new level in your life. Change the formula to get a different result.”

So, remember, changing your paradigm is like upgrading from the Stone Age to the Space Age — less caveman, more astronaut.

P.S. — Thank you so much for reading till the end. I’d like it if you could provide me with constructive criticism, I’m open to embracing mistakes.
