Why a “Hall of Fame” Level Medium Writer Deleted All the Content From His Page

A warning to writers who want to make serious cash

You may have heard that Nick Wignall — one of the most popular writers in the history of the site — removed all the content from his page and left Medium for good.

The question is…

Why?

Here’s what he said in an article making the announcement that he was leaving:

“[…]over the past 6–12 months, both partner program earnings and distribution have been dramatically worse for me with no improvement in sight.

He’s not the only one…

I have been on Medium for eight years. Nearly all of the top writers on the platform have left.

These days, I only re-post my newsletters to Medium and make zero effort to actively grow over here.

If you are a brand new writer and you want to make 1 or $2,000 per month, then Medium is fine for you.

But the days of making $10,000+ or even $5,000+ on Medium are over. It just won’t happen.
