You hear it everywhere, all the time.

Choose one thing, and do it every single day. No days off, you’ll be unstoppable.

But that’s just one way to book progress.

Not the only way.

And definitely not the way that works for me.

What happened when I did the thing, every single day

When I started studying Mandarin in China, I did so for up to 5 hours per day.

I got deadly ill three times, once with a lung infection, and two times with food poisoning. Every time, I was out for at least a week, alternating naps with binging on TV series.

I didn’t touch a study book, let alone study.

The hustle bros would call me lazy. But that’s life happening.

A different example.

Years ago, I wanted to become a self-taught coder. But I gave myself unrealistic deadlines and compared my progress to that of others. I looked at screens until my eyes bled, every single day. The comparisons made me feel incompetent.
