How to Create a Tracking Template for Your Mixpanel Implementation

Our next tip will cover the how and the why behind using a tracking template. The tracking template is simply a document that outlines all the information about your implementation such as event names, properties, people properties and special notes. However, this simple document is the key to a successful Mixpanel implementation.

The tracking template is an excel sheet that aligns your events to actions throughout your app or product. The structure you decide for this template doesn’t matter as much as actually creating one.

It’s impossible to get event names, properties and a few other things done right on the first try. You will go over your planned implementation a few times, each time discovering that you could tweak something to make it easier to implement or easier to maintain. These “tweaks” are much easier to fix in an excel sheet than in actual code.
