In my opinion, being able to visualize your problems and solutions with diagrams is a powerful tool to have available to you as an engineer.

Whether you want to understand a user’s flow through your application or document your software architecture, a diagram can go a long way. However, it’s easy to make a few mistakes when creating the diagram, which can lead to confusion and misunderstandings.

In this article, I’ll walk through five of the most common diagramming mistakes, and how you can avoid them when creating your own diagrams.

1. Forgetting to Include a Title

This one is by far the most common, I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve seen a diagram without a title.
