Life is a school, not the other way round!

I was recently reading an article about Indian Education systems and came across this potential statement which says,

“Education is a broad process of formation of character and also the acquisition of knowledge, Vedas, science, philosophy, arts and literature.”

Isn’t this the true essence of our Indian education? Isn’t this what the whole concept of education is about?

Education has essentially become the transfer of knowledge from the textbooks onto the exam papers, wherein it ideally must be from within the self to the real world.

If we look back through the years, the ratio of the clueless graduates entering the workforce is raising and it is disheartening to see that their two decades of education is serving no purpose than to impress a manipulative society and its norms.

The fact that, Indian education is a beautiful amalgamation of its rich culture and all the science-arts knowledge, has faded through centuries.

Did you ever come across Kautilya’s Arthasaasthra or Pingala’s Chhandas Saasthra in any educational institutions which delivered their respective true essences? I am sure you must be googling the names by now. The authentic essence has been diluted to something more mechanical and easily adaptable theorems and theories.

The process of seeing numbers, lines, angles, patterns etc., in real lives has vanished.

How can we not talk about the role of a teacher when talking about Indian education?

No matter what age we live in or how far our technological advancements reach, having a teacher for a student is inevitable. Guru- the supreme teacher, plays a vital role in a child’s education. The child not just receives the knowledge but is supposed to be the character offspring to the teacher. A teacher’s role is majorly to impart his experience and knowledge to his students and let them climb the hill.

Talking about a school’s role, it is to kindle the child’s character & skills, help him identify his mistakes, overcome them and most importantly analyze them by himself for a better understanding of life. Whereas it has turned out to be the harsh responsibility of assessing students based on pure numbers.

All this time, the forgotten key rule is that, skills and character always go hand in hand. True essence of education is always the evolution but not standing out!

Education has to be a maker, but not a breaker!
