Quantum Snake Oil Goes Greek

I have been having Twitter conversations with the awesome Dr Jen Gunter, a US based physician and blogger. Both of us have an aversion to homeopathic medicines, and so she has incorporated some of my “Quantum Snake Oil” article into a blog post, with additional commentary by her, on the case of the University of Toronto offering a course (since withdrawn) which included reference to “Quantum Mechanics explaining Homeopathy”. The University of Toronto physics faculty were, not surprisingly, very unhappy and complained. The resultant internal investigation did not answer the specific question raised by the scientists, but said that the course did give “balance” to the questions of the efficacy of homeopathic medicines. Poppycock and balderdash! There is no “balance”, it’s clearly just wrong and we should stand up and say that.

And then the article on Jen’s blog has been translated into Greek by Diamantis Klimentidis a clinical pharmacist with a strong interest in evidence based science (as we all are).

And he has cool graphics too!

Now please note that I am not disparaging all alternative therapies; there is strong evidence that some herbal remedies and relaxation therapies can be effective. The decision whether to use them should be based on the scientific evidence. Regrettably there is no scientific evidence that homeopathic medicines do anything other than act as a placebo.

And to my friends in Greece, I have visited your beautiful country several times. I hope that you can find a way out of your current economic predicament. My thoughts are with you.
