This article by Stan Cox and Matthew Sanderson from Foreign Policy discusses the link between typical agricultural techniques used today, such as monocropping, pesticide use and artificial fertilizer production, and the ecological collapse around the world UN scientists have been warning the world about for decades. The current giants of the agriculture industry such as Monsanto-Bayer are applying these practices at a scale never seen before in human history and as a result the effects on the Earth and its people have never been more widespread.

Stan Cox is a research scholar focused on ecosphere studies at the Land Institute in Salina, Kansas and Matthew Sanderson is a social scientist at Kansas State University. The scholars apply to this piece their respective expertise in science and society to make a powerful statement on why the changes we are bringing to this industry are so important.

The message being shared in this article is critical to climate change, the hunger crisis and many other interconnected issues stemming from the two. The ties between traditional ways of conducting international finance, business and relations are heavily tied to the massive industrial systems and processes causing problems throughout the world, such as industrial agriculture. At Precision Ecology our goal is to reimagine these systems with a focus on what’s best for local people and produce.
