Google has meticulously planned to roll out chatGPT’s direct competitor, Bard. ChatGPT reached 100M users in 2 months, and is expanding at an increasing speed and Google Bard, once fully rolled out, will reach at least 1 billion users with ease.

Although, Bard has bigger theoretical distribution, ChatGPT completely grew from 0 to 100 M actual (not theoretical) users organically. For google, bigger distribution doesn’t actually guarantee that all 1B users will use it but we’re not yet sure if Bard can be turned off once its incorporated. Google might just put the Bard results up there regardless — much like they already display short answers to factual questions now.

What does BARD mean?

A remarkable fact is that ChatGPT’s circle is looming so large in the figure, compared to another company whose name is now in the English dictionary. The theory behind the name is that it was apparently named after William Shakespeare, one of the greatest writers who was given the title, “The Bard of Avon” in recognition of his status as great poet!

How art inspires technology! All in all, Bard, as a name, means a poet or composer of heroic verse! It feels so surreal and I genuinely feel that we are currently witnessing two largest deployments of big neural nets in history. A dance of giants, unfolding in real time.
