Part of the Technology Futures process is revisiting our prior backcasting analyses as new Signals emerge from fog of uncertainty. Doing so allows us to improve foresight iteratively. We also get to pivot directions based on reduced uncertainty over the horizon. I am going to do both in this analysis. I’m also going to show you how we can take a Signal with stated relevance in one Disruptor category (i.e., medicine) and backcast it into a different one.

The Signal delves into the advancements in creating artificial life forms using hybrid peptide-DNA nanostructures. These artificial life forms have potential applications in creating viral vaccines and disease-treating nanomachines, heralding groundbreaking changes in healthcare. The research focuses on combining the strengths of DNA and peptides to create hybrid molecules that can be used for various medical and technological applications.

Given this Signal, let’s explore how it potentially relates to the prior backcasting analyses we’ve done. Afterward, we can draw out an objective to work backwards from to the present.
