A China-Centric Order Is A New Evolution of Colonialism Through Technology

A China-centric global order is a new evolution of colonialism through which technological dominance becomes the key enabler as China seeks to control, monitor, and influence the social, economic, and political spheres subverting them to its own interests. It works to achieve these ends through conventional trade and investment agreements, displays of power, intimidation, and coercion, and also through strategically significant behind-the-scenes mechanisms such as dominance over international standards, digital ecosystems, artificial intelligence, core communication and infrastructure mediums.

The first moves towards a China-centric global order appeared in the late 1990s with the scheme to infiltrate Western elites and re-locate global manufacturing to China. Over the following two decades, China co-opted Western financial markets, and business, appealing to short-sighted greed to accelerate globalisation. The scale and audacity of the plan re-oriented global manufacturing, so that China became the largest trade partner for 120 countries, exporting 42% of global manufactures, while in the rearview mirror was the de-industrialisation of the West.
