I first want to warn you that this article will change how you see the world around you. Researching this piece has instilled a paranoid fear in me. I see death, decay and disease around every corner. You have been warned. Read on at your own peril.

When the phrase plastic armageddon pops up we often envisage an ocean chocked by a blanket of floating rubbish, seals caught in plastic netting or even dead animals with stomachs full of the stuff. For decades this was what we feared. But, over the past few years we have discovered an even more toxic and invisible catastrophe playing out all over the world. Microplastics. These microscopic specks of plastic infiltrate the cells of all living things and poison them from the inside. This raises the question, do you have microplastics coursing through your veins? What about our most delicate and intricate organ, the brain. Are our minds safe? Possibly not.
