The Quest for True Contentment
Once, there was a man consumed by an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. His days were devoted to reading and learning, and he often looked down on those around him who were content with their ignorance.
One day, he heard tales of a great mountain, its peak hidden in the clouds; it was rumored that prayers and wishes were instantly granted by an angel dwelling there.
Driven by curiosity, the man embarked on a challenging journey to find this mystical mountain.
After much perseverance, he discovered it, shrouded in clouds.
On the mountain’s summit, he encountered a terrifying but benevolent angel who could fulfill three wishes to whoever sought its divine presence.
Without hesitation, the man approached the angel and, for his first wish, asked for knowledge of the entire universe.
The angel granted his request, flooding his mind with every inconceivable piece of information.
Soon after leaving the mountain, he realized that knowing everything took away the joy of discovery. Life became predictable, and the once wondrous world turned mundane.
Overwhelmed with sadness, the man sought refuge in a nearby park, where children played.
Observing their uninhibited wonder and boundless joy, he recognized the value of ignorance.
Motivated by this insight, he headed back to the mountain for his second wish, asking the angel to strip away all the knowledge, leaving him as ignorant as a child.
In an instant, the man’s mind was cleared, and he found magic and wonder in the simplest things.
However, upon returning home, his newfound childlike behavior invited ridicule from friends and neighbors, leaving him embarrassed and unhappy.
Realizing the folly of his extreme pursuits, the man returned to the mountain.
His final wish was to revert to the person he was before the first wish.
The angel granted his request, and the man, now wiser, returned home content for the first time.
He had learned that there was a balance to be struck between knowledge and ignorance and that true happiness could only be found in acceptance of that balance.
