Society is becoming more digital in how we interact with one another. The internet and the smartphone provide near-constant access to the persistent digital world.

But the internet is still young and full of inconsistent standards for how we express and represent ourselves. We use avatars as a representation of digital identity which can imbue attributes that are unavailable in the physical world.

You can be anyone you want on the infinite internet.

The use of avatars creates a pseudo-anonymous reality, where people can hide their real identities. The question is whether or not it’s a good thing. And will it be part of the future versions of the internet?
