Apple has unveiled the new 2nd generation AirPods that feature the H2 chip. We saw the new headphones unveiled at the traditional September conference. They were unveiled alongside the new Apple Watch Series 8, Apple Watch SE 2, Apple Watch Ultra, and a quartet of models from the iPhone 14 lineup. However, the new Apple headphones come with a major new feature — a brand new H2 chipset that aims to take the overall quality of the product several levels forward.
So in this article, we’ll focus on the H2 chipset itself and its capabilities, or more specifically, how it enhances the capabilities of the newly introduced 2nd generation AirPods Pro headphones. From the start, we can say that this chip is practically the core of the entire product, ensuring its flawless operation.

The Apple H2 chipset is at the heart of the newly introduced AirPods Pro 2. Apple itself presents it as the conductor in charge of the superior sound of the headphones themselves. However, at the core, it improves on some all-too-familiar features. Compared to the first generation, its presence provides the headphones with twice as effective active ambient noise cancellation mode in comparison. But it doesn’t stop there.
The reverse pass-through mode has improved similarly, which is now adaptive and can work with ambient sounds. As a result, AirPods Pro 2 can reduce loud ambient sounds such as sirens, heavy construction equipment, loudspeakers from concerts and more without reducing other sounds. So you can still benefit from the pass-through mode and hear your surroundings clearly, even when there are several distractions in your radius.
To make matters worse, the Apple H2 chip will also provide better acoustics, resulting in better bass tones and overall sound. This goes hand-in-hand with the giant's new feature, Personalized Spatial Audio. This is one of the main features of the new 2nd generation AirPods Pro. The feature works closely with the iPhone (with iOS 16).
The TrueDepth camera takes a picture of a specific user, which is then matched to the spatial audio profile itself. From this, Apple promises even higher quality.

Finally, let’s quickly go through the new generation's remaining news. In addition to the aforementioned features, which are directly backed by Apple’s H2 chipset, the 2nd generation AirPods Pro also brings the option of touch control on the headphones’ feet, which can be used, for example, to adjust the volume. In addition, we’ve also seen better battery life. Individual headphones will now offer up to six hours of battery life, an hour and a half more than the previous generation.
Combined with the charging case, AirPods Pro 2 offers 30 hours of listening time with active noise cancellation. Of course, there’s also IPX4 water resistance and free case engraving. What may surprise many, however, is the enhancements to the Find system and the incorporation of a small speaker at the bottom of the case.
This will then be used to indicate charging or where you can’t find the power case, which goes hand in hand with the U1 technology and precise search within the aforementioned native Find app. On the other hand, the new Apple headphones still don’t support lossless audio.
